MAY THE LAND BEAR WITNESS

Sinvaravatn's interest sinks into the role of aesthetics for how the land/landscape visual works with people’s perceptions. The artist takes that the landscape, which serves as the backdrop for any story, plays a role as powerful as the protagonist. It is seen, yet unseen; somehow being stared, yet found unfound. The image of trees, mountains, rivers, and abundant farms are placed delicately according to the artistic composition, convincing audiences to chime along the history of the country which dominantly orchestrates people’s sensation their ideas, beliefs, prides, and even rages. When landscapes are not meaningless empty scenes, what lies behind them is the political ideology deeply embedded in the land. “May the Land Bear Witness” is the video installation that tells a long journey overlapped by contextually small and grand narratives in Thai society. Sinvaravatn lugs each different situations in different contexts and laces them anew through landscape, as the protagonist who bears witness times after times, ages after ages, together with oil on canvas painting.

ธรณีนี่นี้ เป็นพยาน

​

วัชรนนท์สนใจบทบาททางสุนทรียศาสตร์ของภาพทิวทัศน์ ว่าทำงานกับความรู้สึกนึกคิดของผู้คนอย่างไร เขาเห็นว่าภูมิทัศน์ซึ่งเป็นฉากหลังให้กับเรื่องราวต่างๆ มีบทบาทที่ทรงพลังไม่น้อยไปกว่าตัวละครเอกของเรื่อง  ถูกจ้องมองแต่กลับไม่ถูกพบเห็น ภาพของต้นไม้ ภูเขา แม่น้ำ และทุ่งนาที่อุดมสมบูรณ์ ได้ถูกจัดวางอย่างปราณีตตามหลักองค์ประกอบศิลป์ เชื้อชวนให้ผู้คนได้คล้อยตามไปกับเรื่องราวความเป็นมาของชาติบ้านเมือง ซึ่งมีส่วนสำคัญในการกำกับอารมณ์ร่วมของผู้คนในสังคม ทั้งความคิด ความเชื่อ ความภูมิใจ รวมถึงความคับแค้น เมื่อภาพทิวทัศน์ไม่ได้เป็นเพียงภูมิทัศน์ว่างเปล่าที่ไร้ความหมาย แต่สิ่งที่ดำรงอยู่เบื้องหลัง คืออุดมการณ์ทางการเมืองที่แฝงฝังลงลึกไปในแผ่นดิน ‘ธรณีนี่นี้ เป็นพยาน’ คือผลงานวิดีโอจัดวางบอกเล่าเรื่องราวการเดินทางอันยาวนาน ที่ซ้อนทับกันไปมาระหว่างเรื่องเล่าขนาดใหญ่ และเรื่องเล่าขนาดเล็กในสังคมไทย วัชรนนท์ได้นำเรื่องราวต่างกาลเทศะมาร้อยเรียงขึ้นใหม่ โดยนำเสนอผ่านภูมิทัศน์ในฐานะตัวละครสำคัญ ที่เป็นพยานรู้เห็นเหตุการณ์ต่างๆมาหลายยุคหลายสมัย จัดแสดงควบคู่ไปกับผลงานจิตรกรรมทิวทัศน์สีน้ำมันบนผ้าใบ
