LET THE LION TELL A SHORT STORY

This set of works is a quest to collect stories scattered within the house where the artist has grown up and piece them together to tell a new set of stories. The artist started by considering at the stucco lion sculpture created by his great-grandfather who was driven by his belief and compassion to protect family members from diseases. According to the principle of feng shui, the lion is the solution because the house is unfavorably located between the temple and the hospital. Occupying the second-floor balcony of the house, the lion has been watching over the people and events in this area through time and changes. The house was once an old wooden house until it was demolished and renovated into a new commercial building. The landscape of the city has changed a lot as well. It was a pity that his great-grandfather had passed away before he was born. Even though they can’t meet in person, the artist thinks his great-grandfather still exists today through the stories people in the house have told him. Those small narratives on the dining table bring his family together. This series of works is therefore a review of the changing landscapes of Suphan Buri in the past through personal memories of the artist’s family members and the collective memory of his friends in Suphan Buri.

ผลงานชุดนี้เป็นการสืบเสาะเรื่องเล่าที่กระจัดกระจายภายในบ้านที่ศิลปินเติบโต แล้วนำมาร้อยเรียงจนกลายเป็นเรื่องเล่าชุดใหม่โดยมีจุดเริ่มต้นมาจากการพิจารณาประติมากรรมปูนปั้นรูปสิงโตที่สร้างสรรค์ขึ้นโดยเหล่ากง(ทวด)ของศิลปิน มันคือศิลปกรรมแห่งความห่วงใยที่ทำขึ้นมาเพื่อปกปักคุ้มครองสมาชิกครอบครัวจากโรคภัยไข้เจ็บ เป็นการแก้ฮวงจุ้ยจากเหตุที่บ้านตั้งอยู่ระหว่างวัดและโรงพยาบาล สิงสถิตอยู่บนระเบียงชั้นสองเฝ้ามองความเป็นไปของผู้คนและเหตุการณ์ต่างๆที่เกิดขึ้นในย่านนี้ ตั้งแต่เมื่อครั้งที่ยังเป็นบ้านไม้หลังเก่าจนรื้อถอนแล้วก่อสร้างเป็นอาคารพาณิชย์หลังใหม่ พร้อมๆกันกับภูมิทัศน์ของเมืองที่เปลี่ยนแปลงในแต่ละยุคสมัย ช่างเป็นเรื่องน่าเสียดายที่กว่าศิลปินจะเกิด เหล่ากงของเขาก็ได้ล่วงลับไปก่อนเสียแล้ว แม้จะไม่ได้ประสบพบเจอและสัมผัสกายเนื้อซึ่งกันและกัน แต่สำหรับศิลปินแล้วเหล่ากงของเขายังคงดำรงอยู่ผ่านคำบอกเล่าของผู้คนภายในบ้าน เป็นเรื่องเล่าขนาดเล็กที่ลอยตลบอบอวลอยู่บนโต๊ะกินข้าวที่ทำหน้าที่ร้อยรัดสมาชิกในครอบครัวเข้าไว้ด้วยกัน ผลงานชุดนี้จึงเป็นการทบทวนความเปลี่ยนแปลงภูมิทัศน์ของเมืองสุพรรณในอดีต ผ่านการกลับไปสำรวจความทรงจำส่วนตัวของผู้คนภายในครอบครัวและความทรงจำรวมหมู่ของมิตรสหายชาวสุพรรณที่ศิลปินรู้จักมักคุ้น
